YouTube has announced a new feature which will allow parents to have more control over the content that their teens are consuming.
Managing kids’ screentime is tricky business, but there are parental controls in place which can be helpful. However, it seems like once they are teens, they are forgotten about. But parents of teens will know that the addiction to their phones hits another level during these years and it can be hard for parents to know how to handle.

Now, parents can set time limits for Daily Shorts, something that are incredibly addictive for children and teens.
How to enable new YouTube control feature
To enable the time limits, you simply go into the family centre on the YouTube app and select ‘time management’ on your child’s account. You can select a time limit for how long they can scroll the Shorts feed, with zero minutes per day also an option.
Once your child reaches the approved limit, a message will appear, and they will be prevented from scrolling for the rest of the day.

Speaking about the move, Dr Garth Graham, Global Head of YouTube Health, said: ‘Parents in Ireland and across Europe can set the amount of time their teens spend on Shorts, including to zero minutes per day – an industry-first parental control.’
‘We believe parents should be in the driver’s seat and the new Shorts feed limit helps them to tailor their family’s viewing experience,’ he added.
