Joanna Murray has shared an all-too-relatable insight into what relationships actually look like after you have children.

When children come into the picture, your relationship with your partner inevitably changes, often for the better, as we see a different side to our other half. However, they can also become harder in ways, and many new parents go through a ‘roommate’ phase, when romance is the last thought in their heads, they are just getting through each day, their baby at the forefront of their minds.

It’s completely normal and eventually settles itself (albeit with work from both parties) but quality time as a couple does look different for many years.

Couples who may have previously enjoyed spontaneous nights out, hikes together, or trips to the cinema and shows in the evenings now find themselves having to squash some quality time into the couple of hours between putting their child to bed and falling asleep themselves.

It doesn’t give much time for all the chores that need to be done, never mind planning a romantic date night. Then there is the alone time we all crave. How many of us have had to choose between a date night and a night to watch trash TV and scroll alone – both are needed and it can be a hard call to make.

But Joanna Murray (formerly Cooper) and her husband, former Irish rugby star Conor Murray, have it sussed out, and it’s actually quite genius.

The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Alfie, in October 2024, and while they certainly have many more glam evenings than most of us, they also appear to suffer with the same common evening dilemma.

Many women will understand the feeling of wanting to binge-watch their favourite reality series while their husband watches football. But if it has been one of those weeks when you and your partner haven’t had two minutes together, then it can be tricky to write off another night together.

So don’t! Joanna proved that you can do both by sharing a snap of herself and Conor in bed together, watching their own things on their laptops. The pair are holding hands, still having that closeness we all crave from our loved ones.

She simply captioned the snap ‘marriage’, and we can relate.

Add a few snacks and this seems like the perfect date night to us! Will you give it a try?
