There are a few apps that parents need to be aware of as their tweens or teens probably are and may even be using them.
We may be aware of apps like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok, and online platforms such as Roblox and Fortnite. But there is so much more out there, it’s hard to get our heads around it but for our internet-savvy kids and teenagers, they are a walk in the park.
And it’s a good loophole for teenagers who aren’t allowed X or Y app or game – if you don’t know about something, you can’t ban them from using it.

5 apps that you may not know about, but should
Safewise, a home security website, has listed some risky apps for children, and there are a few that parents may be unaware of, which are worth taking note of.
1. Upscrolled – an app that launched in 2025 and is sold as a ‘censorship-free social media’ and has minimal moderation. This means that there is potential for kids to encounter inappropriate content.
2. C2 Live Streaming – this is a live streaming app in which people can watch live content, often without the option to pause or add filters. There is also no preview option for kids to see what videos will be about.
3. PovChat AI – the warning for this app is in the name, really. It is an AI roleplay chatting app in which people can chat about anything, including sexual or violent topics.
4. Clapper – this is a short-form video app similar to TikTok. But this app has ‘looser’ content rules than TikTok, meaning if kids are using it unsupervised, they may be at risk of seeing inappropriate content.
5. Triller – Again, another video app similar to TikTok or Instagram reels, which allows users to create, edit, and share short-form videos and music videos using AI-powered editing tools.
