Jess Redden has opened up about sleep training her sons, admitting that she did it with one but not the other.
Every parent makes the best decisions for their babies with the information and experience that they have at the time. But as research and advice updates and changes, our parenting often does too, meaning that sometimes our parenting changes from child to child.
Sometimes parenting also changes from parent to parent, as we said, everyone does the best with the information they have.

Why Jess Redden only sleep-trained one of her children
In a recent Q&A, a follower asked Jess if she sleep-trained her boys and she had a very interesting answer.
The pharmacist admitted that she sleep trained her oldest child, Bobby, three, but not baby Ross, who was born in November 2025. ‘We did with Bobby but not Ross. I have some friends who swear by it, but personally, I just think they sleep when they’re biologically ready to sleep.’
She said that adding a good routine, full feeds, tag teaming and going to bed at 8 or 8.30 all help with the tiredness.

But tiredness when you have a baby is tough and Jess admitted that it even made her feel like a ‘bad mum’ at times, when she’s ‘exhausted’ and has ‘no patience’.
‘We must learn to be more gentle with ourselves, we try our best with whatever energy we do have and each day we get to try again.’

Jess and her husband Rob Kearney, announced the birth of their baby boy Ross in November 2025. ‘And then there were four. Meet our little miracle, Ross,’ she said at the time.
