Congratulations are in order for Holly Cairns and her husband Barry, who are expecting their second child.
The Leader of the Social Democrats announced the news on Instagram with the help of her toddler, who was born in 2024.
The one-year-old is pictured holding onto an ultrasound scan and looking at her future brother or sister.
‘Some news: A little brother or sister on the way,’ Holly said.

Friends and followers took to the comments to share their congratulations, with one person saying: ‘Just marvellous news. Never, ever forgot how you spoke up for mothers in prenatal/postnatal care during Covid. Our blessings on all of you again in return.’
‘Congratulations Holly,’ Louise McSharry added while a Maia Dunphy chimed in: ‘Oh this is wonderful news!!!!!!’
Holly welcomed her first child, a daughter whose name has not been shared publicly, in November 2024, on polling day of all days!
‘She’s here. We’re completely in love with her. Holly and Barry,’ the new mum simply said at the time, alongside a photo of herself holding her daughter in the hospital bed.
Holly previously revealed that she was hesitant to share the news of her first pregnancy because their journey to parenthood was long and not straightforward.
‘While I’m delighted to share this news now, I was initially hesitant because like so many other couples hoping to start a family, ours has not been a straightforward journey. But all the signs look good for this pregnancy so we are really hopeful,’ she said.
