Pregnant women have been warned about an urgent recall of cheeses sold in Dunnes Stores nationwide.

The Food Safety Authority (FSAI) have warned people not to eat the affected cheeses after the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria can cause food poisoning and is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, people with a weakened immune system, newborns and adults aged 65 or older.

The cheeses affected are certain batches of the Dunnes Stores Velvety & Mild French Brie (170g). The use-by dates on the affected batches are: 10/07/2026, 16/07/2026 and 17/07/2026.

According to the FSAI: ‘Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.  In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.  The incubation period is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.’

What to do

Recall notices will be displayed at points of sale and consumers are urged to dispose of the cheeses if they have them at home.
