Amee Leigh Costigan has opened up about her turbulent pregnancy as she reaches a milestone that once felt very far away.

The Irish rugby star is expecting twins with her husband, Neil Costigan, but their journey so far has been anything but smooth sailing; now she’s happily at the 35-week mark.

Opening up about the turbulent time, Amee recalled how everything had been going to plan until the 29-week mark.

Amee Leigh Costigan opens up about time in hospital

Her doctors began to have concerns over the babies’ blood supply, resulting in numerous trips to the hospital, and ‘some days looking positive and others bringing a little more uncertainty’.

The latter came at 30 weeks when the fluctuations in the blood supply led to other complications that required very close monitoring, and she needed to be fully admitted to hospital.

At one point she was having checks every four hours and daily scans, and no doubt it wasn’t what she imagined for her pregnancy.

Amee admitted that she would ‘love to be at home nesting and preparing for their arrival’. That said, she has made her peace with having to be admitted and told her followers, ‘I know this is exactly where the three of us need to be right now.’

She thanked her hospital teams for their care and support and praised her other half for getting through the low points.

‘To my husband, Neil -you’ve been my rock through it all. Not once missing a visit, all while getting our new home ready!’

‘Your strength, love, humour and daily house updates have carried me through the toughest days, and I couldn’t be more grateful for you!’

‘Today we are 35 weeks pregnant- a milestone that once felt so far away. Every extra day is a gift, and we’re feeling incredibly grateful, hopeful, and proud of how far we’ve come. Stay cosy, twins; we can’t wait to meet ye when the time is right.’
