Richard E. Grant is now a grandfather and he couldn’t be happier.

Sharing the news on social media, it’s clear how overjoyed he is after his daughter Olivia and her husband Florian Herbst welcomed a baby boy.

Speaking in a video message, the actor, whose beloved wife, Joan, died in 2021, became tearful as he said: ‘I’m so grateful for the safe arrival of our grandson; life truly is miraculous.’

Richard added in the caption: ‘Trying to distract myself, waiting for the birth of our grandson in a hospital nearby. Then, hearing the miraculous news of his safe delivery by the time I got home.

‘Reflecting on the passage of Time from our daughter’s birth @oliviagranted to her becoming a Mother herself!! Is there a feeling any more tender than this?’

Alongside his video message, Richard shared a few photos from Olivia’s childhood, including ones of himself holding her and his late wife.

Richard was inundated with congratulations, with many people saying that ‘being a grandparent is the best job in the world’ and a ‘love like no other’.

Someone else praised Richard for saying ‘our grandchild’ instead of ‘his grandchild’, writing: ‘Love how you say “our” not “my”… she’s still his Grandma from up in the sky.’

Richard revealed that Olivia was expecting in March while speaking on Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast.

The actor had a beautiful response when asked if he’s felt lonely since losing his ‘better half’ to lung cancer in 2021.

Richard candidly admitted: ‘Not lonely. I live communally because our daughter and her now husband chose a couple of years ago to come and live in our house.

‘So we all live together, and I’m kind of like a concierge. I do most of the shopping and the majority of the cooking because they’re both very busy. And she’s going to have a baby in June.’

Richard opened his home in October 2024 for his daughter, Olivia, and son-in-law, Florian, as they tied the knot and later celebrated with a cool Babylon-themed soirée.

While his only child is well and truly loved-up, Richard previously spoke about having ‘no expectation that I will fall in love again’.

At the time, he said: ‘…which is not to say that it couldn’t or wouldn’t happen, I’m not there on a dating app trying to find it.’

Gyles was curious about this, however, and asked Richard if he’d allow himself to have a girlfriend, to which the actor admitted that he had ‘not thought about it’.

‘I’ve certainly been set up with people. And I keep being told by people, “It’s four years. It’s time. You must find somebody else”,’ Richard said. ‘But I’m not consciously looking. But if I walked out the door now, a coup de foudre happened, I wouldn’t be opposed to that.’

And as to whether he’d feel guilty finding love again, Richard replied: ‘No. But I’ve not had any inclination whatsoever’.
