The summer is here, despite the confusing weather, which means there will be a few more treats than usual – hey, we don’t make the rules, summer does.
And while all food is fine in moderation, some of these ‘treat’ foods are worse for teeth than others, something to keep in mind when serving them to your children.
Food is to be enjoyed, and sometimes it’s just about making the best choice you can when giving your children treats, especially on hot days or family excursions.
Irish paediatric dentist Dr Abigail Moore has shared the treat that parents should lean towards on warm sunny days out with the kids, and the one that you should avoid – and they may surprise you.

The treat parents should choose in the summer – and what they should avoid
Taking to Instagram, Dr Moore answers the age-old question, which is better, ice cream or ice pops?
‘When it comes to the battle of ice cream vs ice pops, you might be surprised by which one is actually the better choice for your teeth,’ the dentist says.
‘While ice pops are a summer classic, they are often packed with sugar, artificial flavors, and sit on the teeth for a long time.
‘Ice cream, on the other hand, melts faster and even offers a tiny bit of neutralization thanks to the milk!’ she adds, encouraging followers to ‘go for that scoop of ice cream’ over an ice pop.
