Former Dublin LGFA star Hannah Tyrrell is expecting her second child with wife Sorcha.

Hannah told of her surprise reaction when she found out she was pregnant earlier this month.

The 35-year-old was previously diagnosed with endometriosis and as a result, she didn’t know how difficult her fertility journey would be.

Speaking to EVOKE about the pregnancy, Hannah said: ‘It’s very exciting for our family, Aoife’s been wanting a sibling now for a little while, and the timing was right. I’m in my second trimester now, so I feel a little bit better. The first trimester was a bit rough, but, yeah, got over the hump.’

Three years ago, Hannah’s wife, Sorcha, gave birth to their daughter, Aoife, and this time, Hannah decided to go through IVF.

‘We’d always said how nice it was for both of us to be able to carry and to have that opportunity, and particularly obviously with my endometriosis, we didn’t know how successful that would be for me, but to be able to carry is just amazing as well as being able to grow our family,’ she told us.

Hannah admitted she was surprised she got pregnant so quickly, despite her endometriosis diagnosis.

‘I suspected I had it for years, [endometriosis], so it wasn’t really anything new for me. It was just confirmed… I managed to get pregnant fairly quickly, and here we are.’

Hannah confirmed she is now 15 weeks pregnant and said the couple plan to find out the gender, but family and friends will have to wait until the baby arrives in December.

And while both mums are getting ready to welcome their new arrival, their young daughter Aoife is also preparing to take on her new role as big sister.

‘She’s really excited to be a big sister. She’s really looking forward to it and is going to share all her toys in her room. So it’s all looking positive, but we’ll see how that goes once the baby arrives.’

Hannah was speaking alongside GAA star Declan Hannon and Tomás Ó Sé as the trio unveiled the GAA Fan Room in the new Maldron Hotel, which has just opened across from Croke Park.

The room, which shares a fantastic view of the stadium, is kitted out for fans with some of the biggest moments in GAA history. From now until the end of the All-Ireland Championship, one lucky guest each night will get to stay in the room.
