Dr Doireann O’Leary’s ‘game-changing’ hack for entertaining toddlers during flights

by Louise Porter / 1 month ago

Dr Doireann O’Leary is just home from a trip abroad with her family of four, including two toddlers, and she has shared a tip for travelling with little ones that she says is a ‘game-changer’.

Most parents who are travelling with children will do a bit of preparation, ensuring that they have snacks and activities to keep them busy in the airport and on the flight. Many of us will pick up some new colours, books or toys as a nice surprise for them, as well as some exciting snacks that they may not usually get (and ensure the iPad is fully charged in case it’s needed). The last thing we want is a cranky child on a plane when there is nowhere to escape to and nobody to help you.

Dr Doireann O’Leary shares game-changing tip

This is exactly what mum-of-two Dr Doireann O’Leary did for her recent family trip to Portugal. But she also pulled out another trick, one that proved to be a big hit. Very expensive, but a bit hit.

Taking to Instagram to show off a big basket of bits and bobs, Doireann explained that for the outbound flight be had bought some new things for her boys which ‘definitely helped’. However, letting them choose their own new toys at the airport on the way home was a total ‘game-changer’.

‘Cost a fortune (airport prices) but anything for peace,’ she added alongside a snap of the gifts which included teddies and a Portuguese book so it wasn’t all ‘toys and treats’.

And Doireann admitted that her kids like the junk toys just as much as ours, showing little plastic helicopters that ‘were revealed as a secret extra surprise to get [them] through the final 30 minutes when things started to get slightly tetchy’.

‘They got us through the final leg,’ she said.
